EVMC is aligned to the mission of Qatar Foundation, in supporting the nation on its journey to becoming a diversified and sustainable economy. By offering lifelong learning opportunities, fostering a culture of innovation, and empowering the local community, the center is also investing in Qatar’s future and contributing to a better world. The center welcomes high school, veterinary students, college students and veterinarians for externships.
Designated members of EVMC staff have been appointed adjunct assistant professors at the College of Health and Life Sciences, Hamad Bin Khalifa University. As members of this academic institution, they participate in teaching activities, curriculum development and admissions process among others. EVMC seeks affiliations with existing Universities to accept graduate PhD and MSc students to join the research laboratory and offers sabbatical opportunities for scientists around the world. With such activities, the center will greatly increase awareness of the veterinary profession in Qatar.
Educational Opportunities
Educational Opportunities comprise:
- Externship
The center welcomes high school, veterinary student, college students and veterinarians for externships. The maximum length of the externship is one month. This program is ideally suited for local resident as we do not provide: accommodation, compensation nor visa and medical insurance to Qatar.

For veterinary students and qualified veterinarians, a letter of intent, Curriculum Vitae, and three reference letters should be submitted to evmc@qf.org.qa
- Internship
One-year educational program where young veterinarians (after a maximum 4 years of veterinary college graduation) are provided with an overall / broad exposure to equine veterinary medicine. Interns rotate through different services: anesthesia, surgery, internal medicine, reproduction, sports medicine to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to become an equine veterinary practitioner. A research project will be assigned to each intern to be completed during the internship program. This complete program gives a solid foundation for a candidate interested in pursuing a residency program.
The program runs from July 1st to June 30th, applications are accepted from October 1st to November 1st of the previous year.

Qatar is a young, ambitious nation with exciting opportunities. Topping the Forbes list of World’s Richest Countries, Qatar has one of the highest standards of living and is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. With a strong economy, attractive salaries, and non-existent tax rate, Qatar attracts top professionals from all over the world.

How is the Qatari Culture?
Qatar has a rich Arab culture and Qataris are known for their generosity and hospitality, which is reflected in the wealth of its customs and traditions.
Islam is the official religion and Islamic influence is evident in clothing, eating, and drinking practices. It is estimated that Qatari nationals make up approximately 12% of the population; Arabic is the official language. As the result of a large expatriate population who live and work in Qatar, English is widely spoken and understood.
What about health and healthcare?
The average life expectancy in Qatar is currently 78 years. High-quality, free or highly subsidized healthcare is provided to all nationals and expatriates. The most prevalent diseases include cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, and cancer.
Is Qatar safe?
Incidents of violence are rare in Qatar and crime rates are generally low. Qatar is one of the safest countries in the world and is ranked 30th out of 163 countries in the Global Peace Index, the highest in the region. The Qatar police force is highly visible and capable, providing a high standard of security.
What about education?
Education, particularly women’s education, has been a major focus of the Qatar government in recent years. Qatar follows the policy of compulsory education until the end of the elementary stage. There are a large number of private and international schools. Besides, Qatar Foundation’s Education City, created as a center of educational excellence, houses international universities from the US, UK, and France.
What is the currency of Qatar and how is the economy?
Riyal is the official currency (QAR or QR). The Qatari Riyal is equivalent to approximately USD 0.27.
As the second-largest exporter of natural gas in the world, Qatar has one of the strongest economies. Diversifying its economy, Qatar is investing thoughtfully in other industries such as finance, tourism, infrastructure, aviation, and utilities. The country is becoming a major international center for sports and energy events.
How is the weather?
Qatar is primarily flat and desert-like. However, there are beaches and large sand dunes in the southeast, along the Inland Sea. The climate is characterized by a mild winter and a hot summer. The country has a low annual rainfall, which occurs during the winter months. Autumn and spring are warm with maximum temperatures between 25 – 35℃, and the summer (June to September) is hot with temperatures reaching 40℃ and above.
What about the dressing style?
In keeping with Islamic law, Qatari women typically wear the ‘abaya’, a long black robe over their clothes. They cover their heads with a ‘hijab’ (scarf) and some may wear a think black veil covering their face. Qatari men generally wear the ‘dishdasha’ or ‘throbe’, a white, tunic-like garment reaching to the ankles, with a headdress called a ‘ghutra’.
While Western dresses are widely accepted, modest dressing is expected.
